Abstract

Post-traumatic trigeminal neuropathic pain (PTNPT) is a clinical condition resulting from a lesion in one of the divisions of the trigeminal nerve (Vp) after elective dental procedures, oral and maxillofacial surgery. The recognition and treatment of this condition continues to be a challenge for dental clinicians, and there is still no consensus in other craniofacial medical-surgical disciplines such as otorhinolaryngology, with nasal surgeries such as rhinoplasty, rhinoseptoplasty and turbinoplasty are among the most common surgeries. This clinical challenge is largely due to the variability of the pain characteristics, the severity of nerve injury, location and duration of the traumatic event. The present communication aims to present a case of DNTPT following rhinological surgery, and discuss the scope based on the still existing synonymy, clinical and therapeutic aspects in neuropathic pain, risk factors and the need for early recognition for timely and effective management to reduce the severity of these pictures of persistent pain in otorhinolaryngological surgery.
